Zambia in single digit Covid positivity rate

• 468 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with 7 days.
• New cases are out of 5, 535 tests done, representing 8 percent positivity rate.
• The country currently has 2, 817 active cases.

Minister of Health says the country has recorded 468 new Positive Covid-19 cases, with 7 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Dr. Jonas Chanda disclosed in a statement that the new cases are out of 5, 535 tests done in the last 24 hours, representing 8 percent positivity rate, the second consecutive day that the country has recorded a single digit daily positivity, while the death toll now stands at 1, 098.
Dr. Chanda stated that 589 people have since been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 75, 087.
He said the country currently has 2, 817 active cases out of which 2, 571 are under community management and 246 are hospitalized, adding that among those hospitalized, 185 are on oxygen therapy while require 43 are in critical condition.
“New cases have been reported from the following provinces; 213 Lusaka, 87 Eastern, 54 North-western, 53 Copperbelt, 33 Southern, 10 Luapula, 8 Northern, 6 Muchinga, and 4 Central. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases recorded to date to 79, 002.”
“We recorded 7 deaths from Copperbelt 3, North-western 2, Muchinga 1, and North-western 1,” Dr. Chanda disclosed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Chanda said the Ministry will continue to closely monitor schools and higher learning institutions so as to maintain a safe learning environment, following the influx of grade 8 and 10 pupils into schools this week.
“In collaboration with colleagues from the Ministry of Education, we are set to ensure the wide dissemination of the integrated guidelines developed from our consultative meetings.”
And the Minister further revealed that the Ministry has commenced vaccination campaigns in in Nsama and Shibuyunji districts and will carry out pre-emptive campaigns in 7 additional cholera hotspots.
“With the onset of the rains, we are aware of the threat of waterborne disease outbreaks such as Cholera, which would add further strain to our health systems in light of the current Covid-19 situation,” he said.
