Zambia’s exports to India alone crossed US$ 1 billion for the first time in the year 2017 to 2018.
This was disclosed during India’s Independence Day celebrations in Lusaka where President Edgar Lungu was represented by Religious and National Guidance Minister Godfridah Sumaili.
President Lungu says Zambia will continue strengthening bilateral relations with India.
President Lungu says the relationship between India and Zambia has seen transformation in many areas such as health, technology, education and many economic cooperations.And India’s High Commissioner to Zambia Ngulkham Gangte said the visit by President Ram Nath Kovind of India to Zambia, first time in thirty years, had strengthened bilateral relations between Zambia and India.
Mr. Gangte has explained that bilateral trade steadily increased over the years, which crossed US$ one billion mark at the end of last year ($1389.27).
Mr. Gangte says India is happy with the construction of the 650 pre-fabricated health posts project under an Exim Bank LoC which was underway in Zambia, with an additional line of credit of US$18 million.
He says the President of India jointly launched with the President of Zambia, the Lusaka City Roads De-Congestion Project, during his visit to Zambia in April 2018 funded by EXIM Bank of India.
