ZCCB concerned with the escalating Covid-19 cases and deaths

The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) says it is concerned with the increased numbers of confirmed cases and deaths from the second wave of COVID 19.
In a statement made available to Money FM, Director for Health Bishop Patrick Chisanga says if this trajectory continues, the lockdown of epic centres would be inevitable with all the devastating consequences of this situation.
“This surge in cases is accompanied by an increase in the severity of the disease requiring hospitalization and oxygen therapy,” he said.
“Our memories are still fresh with the disruption of our social, economic and religious life experienced in the past months when restrictions were imposed and institutions closed.”
Bishop Chisanga said it is the moral responsibility of everyone to act responsibly always and everywhere to ensure that zambia does not plunge into the undesirable worst possible scenario.
“Further guidance shall be provided by the Bishops’ conference if the situation calls for such,” he said.
He has urged the public to follow the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Health and the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI).
