Agri sector records negative growth while ICT booms in 2018

The Central Statisctical office has revealed that the information Communications Technology (ICT) industry recorded the highest growth in the country in 2018.
CSO acting Director for Census and Statistics Goodson Sinyenga says the industry grew by 40.1 percent and was followed by financial and insurance which grew by 23.7 percent.
He says the Agriculture, forestry and fishing industry recorded a negative growth of -21.2 percent while the arts and entertainment industry grew by 12.2 percent.
This is from a Preliminary Annual Gross Domestic Product GDP of 3.7 percent in 2018 compared to the 3.5 percent recorded in 2017.
He says ICT contributed the highest accounting for 1.3 percentage points followed by financial and insurance activities at 0.8 percentage points and wholesale and retail trade accounting for 0.7 percentage points.
Mr. Sinyenga further reveals that the economy grew by 2.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared to the 3.3 percent recorded in the fourth quarter of 2017.
