The Centre for Trade policy and development (CTPD) has charged that the economic diversification agenda is not actually being given the priority that it deserves.
CTPD head of Programmed Brian Mwiinga says “on paper the diversification talk is being given priority, but on the ground, nothing much is being done”.
Mr. Mwiinga has advised that government should consider giving enough incentives to the sectors that it wants to diversify to away from mining.
“How much are we promoting other industrial activities in the country away from mining and agriculture?”, He asked.
He has noted that giving policy statements and actualizing the policies are two different thing adding that “and that’s why we are weak as a country, we talk more and implement less”.
Zambia has embarked on the diversification agenda to involve other sectors of the economy more in creating revenue for the country and reduce the country’s dependence on mining which has been the main stay of the economy.
