Zambia’s debt cannot affect project implementation – MoF

The Ministry of Finance maintains that the implementation of developmental projects cannot be affected by the US$21.3 billion debt that Zambia owes.

Ministry of Finance Spokesperson Chileshe Kandeta says the projects being undertaken are already budgeted for in the national budget.

“So as and when pledged resources come through from cooperating partners, and our own internally generated resources, these projects will be financed”. He added.

Concerns have been raised by some sections of society including opposition political parties, civil society organizations and some international bodies that Zambia is headed into a sovereign debt trap.

Mr. Kandeta acknowledges that there are some pockets of stress but that the government is on course in addressing them.

He was speaking in an interview with Money FM News in Lusaka.
