Zambia Council for Social Development ZCSD says the creation of milling plants in districts across the country will help in the reduction of mealie meal prices.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News ZCSD Managing Director Pascal Bwalya has welcomed the initiative saying it will go a long way in reducing the cost of the staple food.
He has urged government to ensure that it comes up with a solid management system that will allow the milling plants to be profitable and managed without support from government.
Mr Bwalya says without a sustainable management of the milling plants will result in a in a failed project by government.
Mr Bwalya has since commended government for coming up with the initiative.
Presidents Edgar Lungu on Tuesday launched the construction of milling plants under the presidential milling plants initiative at the University of Zambia Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center (ATDC) in Chongwe.
President Edgar Lungu says his administration is resolved to addressing discrepancies in the mealie meal price more especially in rural areas.
