Social Cash Transfer outrage: Govt urged to share administrative inquiry report

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has urged the government to ensure that they share the findings from the administrative inquiry into the abuse of donor funds for social cash transfer programme.

Some donor funders have decided to freeze funding to Zambia over suspected misuse of funds within Social Cash Transfer and education programmes in Zambia.

CSPR Executive Director Patrick Nshindano says these reports of abuse of donor funds more especially to do with social protection programmes as this is key to eradicating poverty and vulnerability among citizens.

Mr. Nshindano says such reports are undermining efforts being made towards eradicating the high poverty levels in the country as enshrined in the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP).

He explains that according to the 7NDP, the nation is targeting to reduce poverty by 20 percent.

Mr. Nshindano has since recommended that the government quickly facilitate necessary reforms for prudent management of both public and donor funds.
