Zambia has been chosen to host the regional secretariat for the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
The office will be the United Nations regional secretariat for SDGs in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji says the regional office will be launched in June this year in Lusaka and the event is expected to be attended by all SADC member countries.
Mr. Malanji says Zambia’s hosting of the secretariat was announced at the just ended SADC meeting held in Windhoek, Namibia.
He says the secretariat will be a third regional organ that Zambia will be hosting apart from Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Mr. Malanji expressed gratitude to the UN and SADC member countries for giving Zambia an opportunity to host the regional headquarters.
He said Zambia was ready to host and launch the regional organ, adding that she has since extended invitations to member countries to attend the launch in June.
Mr. Malanji was speaking in Johannesburg, South Africa when he transited from a SADC meeting in Namibia.
This is according to a statement issued to Money FM News by Zambia’s High Commission to South Africa First Secretary Press and Public Relations Naomi Nyawali.
